PhotonFirst Fiber Based Strain Sensor

An FBG-based optical fibre strain sensor for embedding in or bonding to structures, supplied with PhotonFirst's integration services.

PhotonFirst Fiber Based Strain Sensor

Technical overview

PhotonFirst lists a fibre based strain sensor among its four sensor types but publishes no per-sensor datasheet or specification table. At company level it states sub-microstrain resolution sensing with a footprint below 0.1 mm2, achieved by analysing the wavelength shift of Fiber Bragg Gratings. Sensors are delivered as part of an engineered fibre integration into the customer's asset.

Features

  • FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) based
  • Multipoint sensing on one fibre, reducing cables, weight and installation time
  • Fibres can be embedded in structures/composites, maintaining structural integrity
  • Accurate non-intrusive measurements
  • Intrinsically ATEX safe
