EF Extender Cord

A specially made and tested patchcord that attaches to a ModCon output to preserve its Encircled Flux compliant launch while protecting the connector and allowing a change of connector type.

Technical overview

The EF preserving extender cord is matched to the ModCon so that the launch condition at its far end still meets the Encircled Flux specification. Fitting one protects the ModCon output connector from wear, extending the number of tests before re-termination, and lets one ModCon serve systems terminated with different connector types by swapping cords. Arden states explicitly that these cords cannot make a non-compliant source compliant, and cannot be substituted with a standard patchcord. Standard cords are 2 m long in 50/125 um or 62.5/125 um fiber with a 3 mm jacket.
