A handheld LED light source that delivers a stable 85/85% Limited Phase Space launch for insertion loss testing of aerospace multimode fiber harnesses.

The ALS is used with an optical power meter to measure the loss of multimode fiber systems in applications that require the 85/85% Limited Phase Space modal launch condition, which Arden notes is widely used by Airbus for certifying optical fiber harnesses. Four variants cover 850 nm and 1300 nm LEDs into 50/125 um or 62.5/125 um fiber, all with FC connector interfaces and -20 dBm output. The launch is specified by the Near Field Pattern width at the 5%, 15% and 75% intensity levels. A built-in Li-Ion battery gives 48 hours of continuous use.
