Fiber strain, power and length measurement system that measures fiber elongation and attenuation simultaneously while a cable is under mechanical stress.

The SPL500 monitors fiber length and attenuation during cable mechanical testing, resolving fiber length to sub-millimeter level according to PFO. It also logs associated parameters such as cable extension, mechanical load and environmental temperature, so strain in the fiber can be correlated against the stress applied to the cable. Broad-band SLED sources cover 1250-1650 nm. Configurations range from a single fixed wavelength (typically 1550 nm) through dual wavelength (1310 nm and 1550 nm) to up to four programmable wavelengths measured simultaneously.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Fiber length resolution | Sub-millimeter |
| Spectral coverage (broad-band SLED sources) | 1250-1650 nm |
| Single wavelength version - measurement wavelength | 1550 (typical) nm |
| Dual wavelength version - selectable wavelengths | 1310 and 1550 nm |
| Multi-wavelength version - simultaneous wavelengths | up to 4, programmable wavelengths |
| Multi-wavelength version - programmable range | 1250-1650 (typical; set by the LEDs fitted) nm |
| Standards compliance | IEC-60793-1-22, IEC-60793-2-50 (C5), IEC-60794-1-2, EIA/TIA-455-FOTP-33 |

A benchtop instrument that measures the modal launch condition (Encircled Flux) of a multimode light source and patchcord at 850 nm. It is used to verify that a test source meets the launch requirements of the multimode loss-measurement standards.

A two-channel mechanical fiber shaker that continuously agitates a multimode test jumper so that laser speckle averages out during Encircled Flux and loss measurements.

A bench interferometer that inspects and measures the surface quality, flatness and end angle of cleaved or polished fiber end faces in 2D and 3D. Three models cover fiber diameters from 80 um to 2000 um.
