A delayed self-heterodyne system for measuring laser diode linewidth, combining a SYCATUS test set with a Keysight X-Series signal analyzer. SYCATUS states a minimum measurable linewidth of 40 kHz.

The SYCATUS test set contains a delayed self-heterodyne interferometer followed by a high-gain linear optical receiver, with a polarization controller inside the interferometer to set the interference condition. The interferometer output is read by a Keysight X-Series signal analyzer, from which SYCATUS states 3 dB, 10 dB and 20 dB linewidth figures are obtained directly. Interferometer and optical receiver are housed in one box, and the delay fibre length, wavelength band and minimum linewidth are set by ordering option.
