Single-channel, low-cost distributed fiber optic strain sensing system intended as a direct replacement for arrays of single-point strain gauges. Acquires a full distributed strain profile once every 30 seconds.

The Static Strain system interrogates one optical fibre carrying over 2,000 equally spaced strain sensors along a sensing length of up to 13 m, with software-selectable spatial resolution as low as 6.4 mm. It is a static rather than dynamic instrument: acquisition is once every 30 seconds, which suits non-destructive testing and long-duration load monitoring rather than transient events. The sensor standoff (lead) length is adjustable so the sensing section can be placed away from the interrogator. Sensuron publishes a US list price for this system, unusually for the range.
